As Mayor of the City of Kokomo, I am pleased to offer this letter in support of the Mid-States Corridor project and its proposed route connecting Owensboro, Kentucky, to Interstate 69 near the Crane Naval Ammunition facility-particularly the segment that would route traffic around the cities of Huntingburg andJasper in Dubois County.
I understand that concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact such a bypass might have on local businesses if existing traffic patterns are altered. These concerns are valid and familiar, as we faced similar apprehensions here in Kokomo prior to the construction of the
U.S.31 bypass around our major retail and economic corridor, now SR93 l.
In Kokomo’s experience, however, the bypass has brought significant long-term benefits. It has reduced congestion, improved traffic flow and safety, and helped preserve the character of our downtown while opening up new opportunities for growth along both the bypass and the old corridor. Rather than harming local commerce, the change in traffic flow has created a more favorable environment for both businesses and residents. The project has supported reinvestment and helped redefine how our city grows and moves.

I believe the Mid-States Corridor offers similar potential to enhance regional connectivity, support economic development, and improve quality of life across southern Indiana. With careful planning and input from local stakeholders, such infrastructure improvements can become valuable assets to the communities they serve.
